Overview
The Executive Head of IT is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the secure and reliable operation of technology systems while driving digital transformation in alignment with business objectives. The role is split between operations and strategic planning, with a focus on enhancing the company’s IT infrastructure, implementing innovative technology solutions, and overseeing the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). This individual will foster long-term growth in a dynamic micro-lending environment, supporting business goals with cutting-edge technologies, maintaining high system performance, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards. The position requires both tactical and strategic expertise, guiding IT teams to execute efficiently while remaining adaptable to fast-changing market conditions.
Responsibilities
- IT Strategy Development & Implementation: Create and implement IT strategies aligned with business objectives. Ensure IT initiatives contribute to the competitive advantage and meet the board’s direction.
- Technology Innovation: Lead the adoption of emerging technologies (e.g., AI, blockchain, RPA) to enhance business processes and improve customer experiences.
- Budget & Resource Management: Oversee the IT budget, ensuring financial alignment with business priorities. Effectively allocate resources for critical IT projects and future growth.
- System Reliability & Performance: Ensure the continuous availability and performance of all critical IT systems to support uninterrupted business operations.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance: Maintain strong cybersecurity measures and ensure adherence to regulatory standards (ISO 27001, NIST) and internal policies.
- IT Support Management: Ensure prompt and effective IT support to maximize user satisfaction and operational continuity. Manage the IT helpdesk system and oversee issue resolution.
- Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Oversee the SDLC for all IT projects, ensuring industry best practices are followed for quality, efficiency, and timely delivery.
- Infrastructure Maintenance & Optimization: Regularly monitor, maintain, and upgrade IT infrastructure to ensure scalability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Vendor & Third-Party Management: Manage vendor relationships to secure quality services and cost-effective solutions. Negotiate contracts and ensure compliance with SLAs.
- Operational Efficiency & Cost Management: Implement best practices to optimize IT resource usage and streamline operations. Control IT operating costs while maintaining performance.
Experience
- IT Leadership & Management: 8+ years of experience in leading IT departments, driving strategic initiatives, and managing teams.
- Enterprise IT Infrastructure & Cloud Computing: 5+ years of experience in managing on-premises and cloud-based systems.
- Software Development & SDLC Management: 5+ years of experience in overseeing the software development lifecycle, from development through deployment.
- Business Analysis: 5+ years of experience in business analysis, identifying technology solutions to meet business needs.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance: 5+ years of experience managing cybersecurity and compliance standards, particularly in financial sectors.
- IT Service Management & Operations: 5+ years of experience in managing IT operations, ensuring system uptime, and handling service delivery.
- Financial Services or Micro-Lending Industry: 2+ years of experience in the financial services or micro-lending industry (preferred).
- Project & Change Management: 5+ years of experience managing large-scale projects and overseeing change management processes.
- Business & Stakeholder Engagement: 5+ years of experience engaging with business units and executives to align IT strategies with business needs.
Qualifications
- Essential:
- Grade 12.
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field (NQF 6+).
- ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) certification.
- Desirable:
- CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).
- PMP (Project Management Professional) or PRINCE2 certification.
- TOGAF (Enterprise Architecture) certification.
- COBIT (IT Governance) certification.
